NCHCC Construction Auditing Services

The auditing contractors at Naples Custom Home Cost Consulting LLC are here to help ensure that you get what you are paying for, and don’t over pay or mispay for, every step of the way. Owners, even those experienced in custom home construction, can’t know how well their builder is managing costs, timelines, and issues like overruns and overhead, among many other concerns. And that uncertainty is even greater when owners are away.

A Construction Audit

There are essentially three areas of any type of custom home or remodeling construction project that require auditing contractors. Those areas include the audit of the construction process (construction audit) to confirm the quality of work; auditing of the construction project management (contractor audit); and the financial/final cost audit to verify, confirm, and provide justification for expenses and costs.

Auditing the job performance is important to the integrity of the work, the viability of the structure (as in your new custom home), and to ensure the work is being properly done. This benefits owners by minimizing the risks of builders cutting corners while mitigating the risks of incurring unnecessary expenses. Additionally, regular on-site audits of your project increase the likelihood of the job being done on time.

Vs. a Contractor Audit

There is an inherent amount of trust that goes into the owner-builder relationship. That doesn’t mean, however, that owners offer builders blind trust without knowing what those hired contractors are or are not doing. Auditing contractors ensure that your builder is adhering to good project management procedures that won’t cost you extra time, money, or headaches.

Bonus: Real Estate Investors

Real Estate Investors (or REI’s) in particular have huge savings opportunities in financial audits. All clients can expect to realize at least 3%-10% savings on a project, which can reach the hundreds of thousands on custom building projects and luxury properties.

Financial and Final Cost Audits

At NCHCC, we will scrutinize each Statement for you. That process also includes performing field audits to assure owners that payments do not exceed the project’s progress.

We also call into question any unclear or confusing invoices that require more detail and explanation, where necessary.

Audits can also cover cost credits, ensuring that those credits are truly realized.

Our auditing contractors are watching out for concerns like budget creep, issues such as duplicate invoices, or catching charges that are builder errors and should be the contractor’s responsibility. NCHCC is always looking out for our owners.

About to make the Final Payment to your Builder? Stop! It may be late in the game, but NCHCC can still help. We will do a backwards review of your project by following the paper trail. Along the way, we will find and show you

  • Costs that should NOT have incurred
  • The reasons behind any “grief” that you suffered along the way

Armed with the documentation we provide on your contractor audit and construction audit , you will be able to negotiate the final payment before making it, or have us negotiate on your behalf. Every cost audit NCHCC has ever performed found cost issues that homeowners should not have paid. We guarantee that, with the money and time you’ll save, there’s no reason to miss the opportunity for a cost audit.

FAQs

Can I select which or what services I want from auditing contractors?

Yes. Similar to an à la carte system, NCHCC will provide an approximate cost for each and every service, not just audits, for you to consider. Once you’ve authorized start of services, we will provide value with all the work we perform for you.
If you aren’t sure what services you need, we’ll talk you through what we can do for you.

How long does the auditing process take?

The length of time it takes to complete an audit will vary depending on the type of audit. As a general rule, cost-related audits typically require more time than an on-site or contractor audit, as these audits often require obtaining documentation and working with other parties.

Am I required to have any audits on my construction, contractor, cost or anything else?

No, although it is strongly encouraged, having auditing contractors evaluate your construction project or costs is not required. Having an outside professional look over your build can help identify overspend and save on costs.
